Due to the importance of your confidentiality and the importance of minimizing dual relationships, I do not accept friend or contact requests from current or former clients on any social networking site (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc). I believe that adding clients as friends or contacts on these sites can compromise your confidentiality and our respective privacy. It may also blur the boundaries of our professional relationship. If you have questions about this, please bring them up when we meet at your next session and we can talk more about it.
I also do not accept communications from patients outside of the telephone number that has been provided to you by my agency at the start of our professional relationship for this same reason. Failure to abide by this policy may result in the transfer of your care to another clinician, or the termination of your care by my agency. All violations of this policy, or agency policy, regarding Social Media are immediately reported to my supervisors, along with the full content of the violating contact.
Friends or contact requests from current or former clients on social networking sites may compromise confidentiality and are not accepted. There will be no friending via social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn. If there is content you wish to share with me from your online site, you may bring it to our next meeting for discussion.
I do not follow current clients or former clients on twitter nor blogs. Doing so may negatively influence our relationship. I may sometimes publish a blog on my professional website and offer information about my practice. I have no expectation for you or any client to follow me on Twitter or read my blogs. If there is content you wish to share with me from your online site, you may bring it to our next meeting for discussion.
There are privacy concerns related to location based services on a mobile phone. If you have GPS tracking or a location-based device on your mobile phone, it may compromise your privacy and provide a clue that you are a meeting with me due to your regular check-ins.
I have a professional social media account which is used solely for professional matters regarding my practice. I will not reveal any information about you on my professional account nor will I have an online relationship with you on my professional accounts. I have a personal account which is separate from my professional account and is used for non-professional activities. I will not reveal any information about you on my personal account nor will I have an online relationship with you on my personal accounts.
The Internet is a Large Place, But Still We May “See” Each Other
